A non-invasive, DNA-based method for beaver species identification in Finland

چکیده

For the ability to control an invasive species and protect ecologically similar native it is essential map exact distributions of both species. This difficult if are so morphologically that their identification in field almost impossible. In Finland, North American beaver Castor canadensis spreading towards range Eurasian fiber at present, these partly sympatric. Effective management requires efficient method for identification, ideally one non-invasive. Non-invasive genetic methods used a wide variety wildlife species, example research large carnivores. Feces good source DNA terrestrial animals, but semi-aquatic animals like beavers, feces not best option. However, environmental (eDNA) has been successfully detect non-invasively aquatic environments. We developed non-invasive, eDNA-based distribution Finland investigate within-species diversity. The eDNA was obtained from feed remains (wood chips) forage sites. With help Citizen science, wood chip samples were collected different parts Finland. our identify ranges Additionally, presence beavers south-east proven first time. Our non-invasive effective way accurately will allow conservation

DNA barcodes for biosecurity: invasive species identification.

Biosecurity encompasses protecting against any risk through 'biological harm', not least being the economic impact from the spread of pest insects. Molecular diagnostic tools provide valuable support for the rapid and accurate identification of morphologically indistinct alien species. However, these tools currently lack standardization. They are not conducive to adaptation by multiple sectors ...

PCR-restriction enzyme method based on the polymorphism in ribosomal-DNA for identification of the most important dermatophyte species in Iran

Background and aim: Dermatophytosis (tinea, ringworm) is the infection of skin, hair or nail that is caused by various keratinophilic fungi (dermatophytes). Dermatophytosis is a common infection throughout the world including all parts of Iran. As conventional laboratory procedures for identification of different dermatophytes are slow or lack specificity, more rapid and reliable methods are st...

a new type-ii fuzzy logic based controller for non-linear dynamical systems with application to 3-psp parallel robot

abstract type-ii fuzzy logic has shown its superiority over traditional fuzzy logic when dealing with uncertainty. type-ii fuzzy logic controllers are however newer and more promising approaches that have been recently applied to various fields due to their significant contribution especially when the noise (as an important instance of uncertainty) emerges. during the design of type- i fuz...

Binaural beat stimulation - a non-invasive method for inducing zebrafish growth

An initial experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effects of binaural beats on fish growth performance. A 90-day trial with four triplicate groups was conducted with 240 zebrafish, Danio rerio, under aquarium conditions. Binaural beat file complexes were played for each aquarium using computer controlled directional speakers for 0 min d-1(Control), 90 min d-1(Group 1), 180 min d-1 (Gr...

Efficient distinction of invasive aquatic plant species from non-invasive related species using DNA barcoding.

Biological invasions are regarded as threats to global biodiversity. Among invasive aliens, a number of plant species belonging to the genera Myriophyllum, Ludwigia and Cabomba, and to the Hydrocharitaceae family pose a particular ecological threat to water bodies. Therefore, one would try to prevent them from entering a country. However, many related species are commercially traded, and distin...
